My counselling style is based on the Person-Centred/Humanistic approach. This is essentially an optimistic view of human beings. The belief is that we all have the capacity to grow as individuals and fulfil our true potential. The aim of counselling is to help you become the person you wish to be.

Our personal growth has often been limited by negative life experiences and people who have only loved and valued us if we behave according to their expectations. Our deep need to be valued and win the approval of others often means we are cut off from our inner resources and our true self.

I aim to offer you an atmosphere of non-judgemental acceptance, empathy and respect as I believe these qualities are the essential elements of an effective counselling relationship.

My role as a counsellor is to help you gain a deeper understanding and acceptance of yourself. I will not tell you what to do but will help you find your own answers. I will help you reconnect to your inner resources and strengths so that you may move forward with your life.

Depending on your individual needs I can integrate aspects from other approaches such as: Cognitive-Behavioural therapy, Brief-solution focused therapy, Transactional Analysis and Gestalt.
